Memory Exercises, 2012

Memory Exercises Pieces by maggieblue 2012

1/  Memory Exercises of an Aging Thinker:  Getting Older?

When we reach a certain age, we begin to forget things but we also start to remember things or wonder about things we never took the time to think about.  To improve my memory or to give me something to think about, I’ve decided to write ‘Memory Exercises of an Aging Thinker.’  So, when does one start getting old?

With me, for one thing, for beginners, I cannot run anymore.  This devastated me.  It was that one day I had legs and the next, they were gone.  I mean, I could run faster that you could jump prior to whatever happened!  And suddenly, I was stopped in my tracks. Impaled to one spot or another.  Seemingly fixed.  It was so strange. At that time I did not associate this with age at all.

There are many things that can cause this to happen I’ve been told, and yes, it happens to all of us, in different ways, at different ages, but still it happens.  Something happens and we no longer can do something we’ve always done.  With my Mom it was gardening, working in her yard…one day she just quit.  With my Aunt Pete it was reading... one day she just quit.  With me, it was dancing:  I literally could not dance and dance and dance anymore.  it’s called Aging and how we recognize it is that one day things change.

‘Memory Exercises of an Aging Thinker’ is good for my memory I’ve been told.  LOL…I was told this by my Speech Therapist.  I will not only remember, I will learn new things.  I will have studied thoughts and random thoughts.  History…Love.  God.  Life.  Change!  I’ve always appreciated thought and thinking.  God is so good to us!  If you get bored to death, don’t read these, however, I want to improve and/or keep my memory as long as I can.

Life on Zargon and Camels

How often have you thought
about life on other planets?
For myself,
I have spent time thinking
and thinking about this.
And thinking. But
Zargon is the only planet
(other than earth, of course!)
that I’ve been in touch with.

Zargonites are already on
the planet earth in small numbers.
The first time I noticed them
I was at my brother’s house in
Conway, South Carolina.

I was standing outside smoking a cigarette.
(ThankGod, I don’t smoke anymore!)
(Which is neither here nor there...)

They were watching me from a spaceship,
which I finally noticed from the corner
of my eye. A blinking light.
I got frightened of being taken finally,
and ran inside. But I peeped through the
bedroom curtain, and they were still up there.
I don’t know how they did it, but they
followed me home to Florida.

When I told my friend Buddy about them,
he laughed. But he believed too
after he watched the blinking light
a few times. (Well, he said there
might be something out there.)

They need to use some of our land
for food. They are giving out of usable
land for the manna they need in
order to survive. That’s all I’m telling
you about Zargon today.
((Yeah, yeah, I hear you laughing, Leroy...))

The painting here is by one of my students,
A.J. Thurber. When he was 5 years old.

To move on.
One of the most fascinating animals
on earth is the camel. I’ve always wanted one,
and was very disappointed when I found out
there are laws preventing this.
At least where I live.
(Can't keep guineas either...)

Camels not only provide transport for people
and goods, but these ships of the desert
are used in full.
Their hair is woven into rugs and tents and clothes.
Their manure is burned for fuel.
Their hides make excellent water containers,
and they are excellent sources of meat and milk
in places where growing and raising food is difficult.
Can you say all this about any other animal?
If you have never had a cup of Camel Milk,
you must try that. It's exotic.

I didn’t know until recently that camels were introduced
To Australia! They served Australia well for many years,
But aren’t used there as much today.

A pic of Jim and Ginger.

A fence there designed to withstand the onslaught of cattle,
kangaroos and camels has a 'supply voltage' that is
substantially higher the normal twelve volts,
and will stop anything …but a camel.

They spit at you so don’t aggravate them. Yuk,
their spit may contain some nasty germs too. So….
Keep Camels Clean.

Did you know that in many Arab lands,
A camel has more rights than a woman?
We would appreciate some Arab input
on this topic.

Your foreign language lesson today is:
English: Any attempt to remove me from
my computer could result in bodily harm!
Russian: Любая попытка извлечь меня от моего
компьютера была в состоянии привести
к в bodily вреде
Portuguese: Toda a tentativa de remover-me
de meu computador podia resultar
no dano corporal!
...One can never tell when one might run
into Russian or Portuguese sailors.

Bon voyage! Au revoir... Αντίο.

Unsung Heroes

Books - my first blog sentence.
How can anyone not read books?
No, magazines won't do and the net,
while wonderful and indispensable,
can not replace books.
Know anyone who doesn't read books?
Please don't introduce them to me -
I don't have time to waste anymore.

Since I am venturing into blogging
at the late date of March, 2007,
I will try to check my spelling,
however, I warn you now,
I am a terrible speller.
So, I may need your help.
Please do not hesitate to report any misspellings.

Your Foreign Language Lesson for Today is Latin:

"Dear God, I forgot to wear underwear! "
"Di immortales! Sine satis habitus in homines exii."
***There is no known word in Latin for ‘underwear’

I was on the beach recently and saw a couple
who stole my heart.
Perhaps they will steal yours too.
So I wrote this poem for them:

The Big Beach Ball

There they go,
two of my unsung heroes
Walking the beach in skimpy bathing suits,
Their hinder parts hanging out on one side,
Their bellies on the other.
Drooping breasts and cellulite,
They wobble down the strand,
enviable in their courage and delight,
kicking unvarnished toes in the sand.
I hail you ladies and you gents
Who are not intimidated at all
By the supercilious vainglorious
who seem to think they own
the big beach ball
By MaggieB Jan.23.07, edited Feb.5.07

((Had a bit of trouble deciding whether to use rumps or hinder parts
in this poem. An English friend pointed out my original 'fannies' just
wouldn't do. I rather like 'hinder parts.' Beautiful couple, right!))
Here's a favorite Forum of mine - most of the people are from Britain:
http://www.idf50.com/clubhouse/

I simply love Forums and visit more than one - one in Scotland,
one in Liberia, one in India, and a couple in the United States.
Do you know a good Forum? If so, let me know.

A friend of mine from Durham, England visited us recently
and we added some new web pages to his site. You may enjoy
checking out Michael's website. As you will be able to tell,
I had to do a lot of the design work - but he's great.
Am trying to get him to start writing magazine articles,
as he is a fountain of information on so much.

This is an old website and among the first I made.
It's called THE BAG LADY IS HERE, and says a lot about
how I think politically. (Yes, I'm a political...)
http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Bayou/2941/
Please excuse the many mistakes you find there in
my directives - haven't worked on this site recently.
Why am I including it here then?
Because it's the first thing I wanted to do when I
got a computer and found out about ''web pages."
